5 Things I’ve been doing in Self-distancing, from Me to You

my collage to do creative

I don’t normally write personal entries on this blog but I thought with everything going on, why not. After all, we all got to practice our writing skills right. While this is not an original idea at this point, here is my list of to do’s:

1. Listen to My Body/ Heal

If you are a productive person this can be hard, it is often framed as laziness or being selfish. Well here is the truth one of the most productive things you can do is allow yourself to heal. Whether that’s mentally or physically. Right now as I am writing this the 2020 pandemic is happening and so many people are feeling even more stressed, tired and scared. When our mental state isn’t the best we can feel it. So I am encouraging you to do something that is positive for your mind and body. Below is a short list of examples:

  • Journaling
  • Catching up on sleep or naping (in moderation if needed).
  • Meditating or practicing mindfulness.
  • Exercise
  • Be creative: draw, paint, take photos, write, etc
  • Eating better or learning about food.

2. Get My school stuff done ( but it could be your Work stuff)

If you are still in school or working you know that though safety measures may have changed the need to gets stuff done hasn’t. I have been going to college from home for years now and here are some tips.

  • Clothing- While some people may defiantly need to wear regular work or school clothes to feel productive, myself included in the beginning. I now find that the more comfortable I am the better I work. So comfort cloth are now my norm.
  • Build a battle nest of productivity- Have a water bottle ( I always suggest metal one due to them keeping your drinks colder longer), snacks if you need them and all your supplies in one spot where you are comfortable and will not be distracted.
  • Do what normally works for you (plus more)- if your a list person make lists if you need to chat with someone make a phone call and talk to someone. The great thing about going to school or working from home is you are in control of how you approach opportunities (what I call challenges). That is a very powerful lesson. What you put in you can get out, most of the time.

Although I do want to note some people may experience a harder time working from home and I want to address that may be an issue and don’t want to minimize the frustration of those who may struggle with less structure or need to work in person. As someone who doesn’t struggle with this most of the time, all I can say is I’m sorry and to reach out. Hopefully, people are willing to help each other.

3. Learning or Relearning a Skill

I know… I know everyone and their mothers have been telling you to do this on social media. I’m not telling you you should go look back at number one if this isn’t for you that is ok and that doesn’t mean anything negative about you or your drive for success.

Anyway if you are interested I am trying to relearn and learn more of French. I only know a little but I like what I do know and just got out of the habit, so I have been re practicing on Duolingo.

Skills to learn or do … Maybe:

  • Another language
  • Learn to read music
  • Play an or another instrument
  • Knitting
  • Cooking
  • Woodworking

4. Declutter and Clean

Everyone wants a clean space and there is something to a clean house reducing stress. As well as less wasted time in the future for cleaning. Honestly, I won’t stay here long my only advice here is not to stress about it and to either listen to music or a movie in the background as you go. Happy cleaning.

5. Absorbing Content to do stuff or relax

I’ve already started to talk about this but sometimes the most productive thing to do is relax. So here we go:

  • Reading a good book: I haven’t got to do this in a long time but I want to take the time and just read again.
  • Watch something not educational (you can also watch educational stuff but that would maybe belong under number 4): I live most of my free time here I like watching movie theories, CGI reactions, and more. Mostly on YouTube and other streaming services.
  • Music: Music relaxes us but also inspires us. I chose Spotify myself but there are so many music platforms now.
  • TEDxTalks: Yes I made them their own category. They are educational but they are fun for me so they get a shout out.
